Pandit Manohar Chimote's views on the 22 shrutis and their relationship with 12 swars were different from the traditionally held view points. Pandit. Manohar Chimote believed that affixing a particular swar on to a particular number of shruti , is more a matter of judgement ( andaz ) than a mathematical accuracy on the part of an artist which he takes while performing. i. e while playing or singing say raag Marwa how much of komal rishabh should be maneuvered ( by gliding or by stretching ) to obtain a required effect ( bhav )..

Secondly, the intra relationship of 12 swars has its own chemistry and it varies from case to case. Let us take for example a case komal rishabh and see how the same komal rishabh sounds differently when put in juxtaposition with other swars like shuddh dhaivat in case of Marwa. like pancham in case of Shree and like komal gandhar in case of Multani in avarohi ang.. Or let us take the case of Shuddh madhyam and see how the same shuddh madhyam sounds differently when applied from Shadja in aarohi ang in case of Vasant and Kedar ( sharp, loud and sustained tone ) Or the same Shuddh madhyam how it sounds differently when applied in avarohi ang in case of Yaman and Purvi ( soft, low and brisk tone ).

To substantiate his point, Pandit Manohar Chimote used to cite behavior of a man. He used to say that just a man is the same but his behavior changes as his relationship changes. For example when in contact with his friend his behavior is different, when in contact with his parents his behavior is different so also when in contact with his spouse, children, elders and so many other relationships, his behavior different.. So just as a man is same but his behavior changes as the context of his relationship changes, so also the swars. A swar is the same but just as the context of its relationship changes by being in juxtaposition with other swars, so also its behavior. The examples are as given above. This SWAR SANDARBHA theory Pandit. Manohar Chimote used to demonstrate very effectively on Samvadini during his concerts and was well received by music lovers.
